The Logos Hope in San Fernando. We were so blessed by the coming of the Logo Hope Om ship in San Fernando City La Union.
Its been a busy last few weeks but here is the lastest to bring you up to speed. First of all we want to apologise for the lack of pictures and poor quality of pictures as our camera broke in May! So you will just have to take our word for it!!!
Fri 24th May:
We attended the opening Ceremony Breakfast, the African Gospel choir performed and the Parade of Nations. This is where many of the ships crew dress in their national dress. It was a beautiful display of cultures…i especially loved the Kazak dress!
Then at 8:45am we took our first team from the ship, around eight people from a variety of nations got in our sweaty van and we drove to a beach in north Bacnotan to do a beach clean with some of the Youth from New Vision Church Raois. This was a very hot but fun morning! After cleaning up the beach the team did a presentation about the ship and told us which country they came from. We returned back to the ship with the team and ate lunch on the ship.
Saturday 25th May:
We picked up another team from the Ship and brought them to Pandan, Bacnotan where our football taining takes place. The boys from the Ship team joined in the football training and playing volley ball and brought a huge excitement with them! The girls made ballon dogs, flowers, cat etc and gave them to all the children! (if only there was pictures!!!) As you can imagine this brought quite a crowd! At a very sweaty half time the team presented the ship, did a drama and a presentation, Andrew translated this into Ilokano and five boys from Pandan Football training decided to change their lifes! After this we handed out ice candy, chocolate cakes and the ship gave away free baseball caps for the boys and free dresses made from pillowcases for the girls! The Baranagy was very excited…so much so that when we got back to the ship with the team, a family from Pandan stopped us in the I cafe and said “We all got showered and came straight here to see what the Logos is all about; we were at the football training this morning!”
Sunday 26th May:
Once again we got to the Ship around 8:30am and picked up another team of people to bring them to our Sunday morning Service, here they shared and preached. After lunch at church we all headed down to Raois BAsketball Court and set up charis and a sound system for an open air meeting. The ship’s team once again did a presentation, some dramas, kids action songs! The atomosphere was brilliant! We took the team back to the ship and at 6:30pm took a team of 30 people to visit the ship. Browse the bookfair, see the journey of life and enjoy the I-cafe!
Tuesday 28th May
Ruth attended a full day (9-5pm) Seminar on HIV/Aids onboard the ship. And what an informative, eye opening day this was for all who attended. A relevant topic for the Philippines whos AIDS stats triple each year and approach that couldn’t have been done better! What a day.
5:30pm We met Ruth at the ship and brought 6 Pastors Kids to the Pastor’s Kids event.
PHEW!!!
Wednesday 29th May
On Wednesday we spent the day connecting with Families and people on the ship. On the evening a beauiful German family from the ship came to our house for dinner. It was a really precious time.
Thursday 30th May
We hired a Jeepney for early on the morning and filled it with children from Pandan and Roais. Then we filled our car with Pastors from Bacnotan and took them all to the Ship., The Pastor’s attended a Pastor’s Event specifically for them! But Andrew and i could not attend as we took all the children to the kids Event..which was in the Hope Theatre. Andrew was the translator and i was so proud of him.
Saturday 1st June: We picked up the Soccer boys from Pandan and Roais to go and visit the ship!
The ship was supposed to leave on June 2nd but its stay got extended! We were so blessed we had another whole week of visits…we took one team into our local school Paratong Elementary School where they gave away packs of school materials for the unprivileged children. On another day we took a team to Melody’s old School in Cabaroan West and went around visiting the students houses with the teacher to hand out school packs.
Andrew was invited to teach in two morning seminars on the ship! It was a real honour.
This proved to be such a rewarding experience for the teams of the ship and also for the schools who benefited. Altogether we had an absolutely marvallous but exhausting time and we look forward to the next time the Logos Hope will visit!
